How to rotate your closet seasonally when you have minimal storage.

Ready or not, the autumnal equinox this past Saturday made it official, summer is over! :( On a brighter note, fall comes baring gifts of cooler mornings, soups acceptable for any meal, bidding adieu to your a.c. and best of all, sweaters! We welcome this season with open (knit covered) arms! So grab something to drink, light a candle, pick a show to watch and set your pomodoro timer because we're cleaning out your closet.

Edit your closet seasonally

Create 3 piles of clothing; one for donation/gifting/sale, one for storing away and a third pile for keep items like t-shirts, tanks and skirts that can still be worn in the fall/winter. Start with what you wore the most of recently, consider if you would wear it again next summer then place in one of the three piles. Put aside the outgoing piles into reusable bag and tackle the storing away pile with the tips below.

Use every nook and cranny of your home

Underbed storage bins are narrow enough to slide into negative spaces, under your couch or beds. These storage bins by Open spaces are breathable and pretty enough to keep out. Perfect for your linens, blankets, cold-weather outerwear, cable knit sweaters, and more! Multi-functional furniture such as storage ottomans and benches are a game changer when dealing with limited closet space. You can also store garments in your suitcases when you're not traveling.

Honey I shrunk my clothes

Compression bags are time tested although they can be an eye sore. These are especially great if you have an awkward narrow place in your home or an outdoor shed. They are airtight, reusable, waterproof, and easy to see through. I recommend listing everything inside the bag on a paper and compressing it with the clothing. Try not to overstuff the bag to avoid ripping!

Consider a uniform

I was one of those children who opted to debate for uniforms in English class. I saw no cons, they took the guess work out of what to wear everyday therefore simplifying my morning routine. And all these years later, I stand by my decision. When I think winter fashion, I think of quality basics, layering, statement coats, statement accessories and durable footwear. We love some of the wardrobe essentials listed here! For more information about our personal styling services, check out our services page.

Maximize your existing space

Folding methods and dividers allow you to maximize the space in your drawers. The kon mari folding method shapes the clothing into a rectangle that is then stacked horizontally. Try this method for t-shirts, leggings and shorts.
